Animal of the week...12

Saved from the brink of extinction, the American Alligator lives, now, in its native habitat: the swamps and wetlands of the southeastern United States.

In fact, State and federal protections and habitat preservation efforts, had helped the repopulation of American Alligator whose demographic count is growing today!

These menancing predators have got armored bodies, muscolar tails and very powerful jaws. Adult alligator are in the apex of all the predators in their habitat ( nearly freshwater rivers, lakes and swamps, especially Florida and Louisiana). They feed mainly of fish, turtles, snakes and small mamals.

however, they are opportunist, and a hungry alligator may eat anything, including carrions, pets and, in rare istances, humans.
