]]With the target of creating a topic about blood (joining my microscope photo viewed on http://phyrtual.org/it/project/1675/multimedia/photo/the-microscopic-world3), here a little news I've just written: Blood is a liquid tissue in which many cells are suspended: red blood cells (or erythrocytes), platelets (or thrombocytes), and five kinds of white blood cells (or leukocytes). Blood transports throughout the body the nutritive substances needed to our methabolism: food molecules, ions, waste and hormones. Red blood cells are the most numerous cells in the blood and their job is to carry the oxygen throughout the body needed to the cell respiration, and carbon dioxide which is expelled through the respiration. They have surface antigens which differ between people and constitute the famous AB0 system and the Rh system. In the end, Red blood cells don't have the nucleus. White blood cells are much less numeorus than Red blood cells, have the nucleus and partecipate in the defence of the body against outsider agents that can trigger infections. According to cell structure, White blood cells divide into Lymphocytes, Monocytes and three types of Granulocytes. In turn, Lymphocytes divide into B and L. The former produces antibody and the latter produce the cytotoxins. Plasma is a straw-coloured liquid in which blood cells are suspended. It transport all nutritive substances which are needed to our methabolism, and also waste materials. Serum is plasma without fibrinogen.

In the upper photo (3300x magnification) highlights more the bloody cells: Erythrocytes ( two red cells), Lymphocyte (blue cell), Neutrophil Leukocyte ( bigger yellow cell), Macrophage ( green cell) and Platelet (smaller yellow cell).
